Glass Pool Fencing: Frameless or Semi-Frameless?

Glass pool fencing comes in various shapes, lengths, thicknesses and styles. Which one do you choose? Here are a few tips to clarify the difference.

The two most popular glass pool fencing styles in Perth, Western Australia are frameless and semi-frameless. There two main differences between the two are thickness of the glass and price.

Semi-frameless glass fencing is cheaper than fully frameless. It has stainless steel or alloy posts that are secured in the ground with industry grade cement or attached to decking or concrete with base plates. The holes for such posts is either dug in the sand or core-drilled in concrete slap, liquid limestone, or retaining wall, up to 700mm deep. Since the normal height of the glass pool fence in 1200mm, the part that goes in the ground is more than half as long as the bit above the ground. This makes the pool fence very solid and secure. Semi-frameless fences use 8mm or 10mm toughened glass. There are some companies out there suggesting that 8mm glass is not strong enough for pool fencing, which is not true. All glass used in certified and produced according to the applicable Australian standards.

Frameless fence is secured in the ground with the help of stainless steel or alloy spigots. These are attached to the bottom of 12mm toughened glass at about 1/6 th distance from the edge of the glass and secured on the glass with special bolts. The spigots are then secured in the ground in the same was as the semi-frameless glass pool fencing posts described above.

So, frameless or semi-frameless - which one do you choose? It's a matter of taste. Both type of fence are strong enough to be used around the pool area. For larger budgets, a frameless fence is a great option as it will add that little extra style to your property.
